Laces For Lana

A note from the Yale Women's Crew team, founders of Laces For Lana:

Our mission is for hot pink laces to become a symbol of support and hope for all touched by breast cancer as we strive to improve breast health education and awareness.

"Life is hectic, but sometimes things happen that call us to pause and consider what is really important. On the Yale Women's Crew team we have had recent occasion to reflect on our routine. Lana, the mother of two of our teammates, Taylor '10 and McLane '14, passed away from breast cancer just a few short months ago. These two girls are some of the most amazing, hard-working and big-hearted people out there, and it prompted our team to start a fundraiser in their honor. We are calling it "Laces for Lana."

We sell hot pink shoelaces for $5 a pair to raise money for breast health awareness and education. The funds raised will be donated to the Get In Touch® Foundation to support their crusade against breast cancer.

The Get In Touch Girls’ Program & Daisy Wheel breast health initiative educates girls in grades 5-12 on the importance of, and how to do a breast self exam - for life.

Cancer has affected the lives of so many of our family and friends. So fresh in our minds is the inspirational coxswain from California Berkeley, Jill Costello. Her amazing battle against lung cancer, and performance at the NCAA Rowing Championships last spring inspired the whole rowing world to reconsider the value of each and every race, practice and stroke.

Wearing these shoelaces in your tennis shoes, silently demonstrates your support.
